We look at some common questions that Episerver and Ektron customers have about the future of the converged platform and whether they should upgrade.

It’s been almost a year since the announcement of the merger between Episerver and Ektron, and since then, we’ve learned a lot about the future of the converged platform, which was officially released at the Ascend ’15 conference. But while the experts and industry-watchers may have a clear picture of the future of Episerver, the website owners who currently utilize Episerver and Ektron still have a lot of questions.

We want to help current Episerver and Ektron customers have as clear an understanding as possible of the future of the converged platform, so here are some answers to questions that we’ve been hearing:

Has the dust really settled with the merger?

While 2015 saw a great deal of speculation about the future of Episerver and Ektron following the merger, we can now say that, yes, the dust has settled, and Episerver is truly the new Ektron. The Episerver Digital Experience Cloud incorporates the best features of both platforms, resulting in an incredibly powerful experience for website owners with nearly limitless possibilities for added options and integrations with other connected systems.

Should I wait to upgrade until the kinks have been worked out of the converged product?

No. The Episerver product is sound and stable, providing the best options available for website owners and utilizing a continuous release cycle that releases new features and addresses errors and issues on a bi-weekly schedule.

However, while upgrading to the Episerver Digital Experience Cloud will provide the most benefits to your digital strategy, you’ll need to create a detailed plan and budget for the migration, ensuring that all of the bases are covered and there are no surprises to get in the way of a successful launch.

How can I be confident that Episerver won’t be acquired like Ektron was?

In the world of business, there are no guarantees, but based on past experience, customers of Episerver can rest assured that the company will always be open about ownership and acquisitions. In the past, they have always been forthright about their plans for private acquisitions, including the acquisition that led to the merger with Ektron. The Episerver product has only gotten stronger with each acquisition, and the transparency that their customers have come to rely on demonstrates that any future changes in ownership will lead to even greater improvements.

What’s next?

Everything Episerver does, from license acquisition to implementation, is done through their partners. This means that any current Ektron or Episerver customers will need to find a strong partner that has a background in both platforms. They can then work with this partner to architect a plan for migrating to Episerver, create a detailed budget for the migration, and execute on this plan to realize the benefits of the converged platform.
