The True Value of Episerver’s DXC Service

Episerver Digital Experience Cloud

When it comes to the Content Management System (CMS) platforms that websites are built on, we here at WSOL are big proponents of Episerver, an enterprise level solution that seamlessly combines content and commerce and provides powerful content editing and personalization capabilities. Forrester Research recently named Episerver a leader in the web content management (WCM) space, and this recognition is well-deserved, since the platform is a true best of breed solution for organizations with enterprise requirements.

Website owners who are considering a move to Episerver are likely looking at their options for implementing the Digital Experience Cloud (DXC), Episerver’s PaaS (platform-as-a-service) offering that provides cloud hosting for Episerver websites. However, they may have some confusion about what exactly is offered in this service, believing that the different packages that Episerver offers simply provide software licensing and hosting.

In reality, the DXC is so much more than that. Organizations who use this powerful tool will have access to a large number of features and services that bring value to their digital strategy. We wanted to highlight a few of them here:

1. An Application Level SLA

Any website hosting provider will offer a service level agreement (SLA) that guarantees a certain percentage of uptime. However, these SLAs usually only cover whether the server on which the website is running will be up or down, rather than the operation of the website software itself.

With the DXC, Episerver provides a SLA that covers the Episerver Software Platforms, hardware infrastructure, network infrastructure, operating systems, and baseline technologies needed to operate the customer website. This ensures that the website application and services will be available at least 99.7% of the time. For organizations that don’t have a DevOps team that focuses on application uptime, this SLA provides them with the peace of mind that their website will always be operating correctly.

2. Elastic Autoscaling

For any website, it’s important to be certain that it will be able to handle the amount of traffic visiting the site at any time. The last thing any organization wants is to launch a new marketing campaign and then have their site crash due to the increase in traffic the campaign generates.

The DXC provides high availability and performance through elastic scaling and load balancing. This means that if you’re using the DXC, your website environment will automatically scale to meet traffic demands, and you will never have to worry about whether the site will be able to handle expected or unexpected increases in traffic.

3. A Managed CDN

In order to handle changing needs for global website traffic, many websites utilize a content delivery network (CDN) which maintains a cached copy of website data on servers distributed around the world, improving the site’s uptime and performance. Episerver includes a CDN as part of the DXC, eliminating the need for organizations to acquire and configure this technology separately. Since this CDN is managed and configured by Episerver, it will utilize the optimal configuration for websites running on the Episerver CMS.

4. Security

The web is a dangerous place, and many organizations don’t have the level of sophistication or maturity in their own security strategy that they would need to be able to handle the latest threats. However, the DXC provides security solutions like web app firewalls, web vulnerability scanning, and DDoS mitigation. These tools are included as part of the package, eliminating the need to seek out separate solutions to ongoing security issues.

The Total Package

Today, many organizations’ website budgets are shifting away from technical staff and toward marketing departments, which means that the people who are put in charge of your website might not have the technical knowledge to address many of the issues mentioned above. With Episerver’s DXC, you’ll be able to implement the solutions that you may not have had the means to make happen otherwise.

With traditional website hosting, all of the services mentioned above would need to be acquired separately and configured to work with your website. With Episerver’s DXC, all of this and more is included, offering a true “all in one” package. And that’s only scratching the surface! Episerver offers nearly limitless possibilities for website owners, and if you’re interested in learning more, please contact us. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have and help you get started implementing Episerver’s powerful tools in your digital strategy!
